NOIDA: Police have returned around Rs 3.5 lakh to three people who were defrauded in the past week. Officers revealed that since the launch of the new helpline number last Wednesday, they have been getting around 2-3 calls per day regarding cyber fraud.
They maintain that the key to recovering the money is to report the fraud at the earliest.
On February 15, police issued two helpline numbers to streamline the complaint redressal mechanism to ensure cyber safety and narcotics control. People can call 0120-4846100 to report any cyber fraud and 0120-4846101 to give inputs on narcotics cases.
"We had launched the helpline in order to provide quick and one stop help to the victims of cyber fraud. In the first week, we managed to help three people who were victims of online fraud and returned a total of Rs 3.5 lakh to them," said the commissioner of police Laxmi Singh.
She further mentioned that the fraudsters cheated these people by getting their bank details and OTPs.
Probe reveal that people operating from other states are behind some cybercrimes. Cops said they have sent some teams to Bihar, West Bengal and Chhattisgarh to coordinate with the local police and solve cases.
