THANE: Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde's son MP Shrikant Shinde on Thursday hit out at Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut for levelling allegations against him that he had given a contract to a gangster in Thane to attack Raut.
Shinde said, “Sanjay Raut is essential to Maharashtra; the morning entertainment of the state would not be possible without him, which is why I am so concerned about him. He has mental health issues like schizophrenia”.

Dr Shinde reacted for the first time to the allegations made by Sanjay Raut during a press conference about Ambernath's Shiv temple beautification project.
Shrikant, during the press conference taking a dig at Raut, said, “First Raut said that contract was given to kill him, but when the police recorded his statement, he told that he came to know that ink could be thrown at him or he could be pushed. When he was asked who said this, he took the name of Chindarkar, who worked into Samna. And when the police took Chindarkar’s statement, he said that he did not name any person, only instructed Sanjay Raut to be careful that an incident like ink can be thrown or he can be pushed”.
Dr Shinde said, “There is a lot of contradiction in the statement of both the people. Police investigation has started in this matter, and the chief minister has also ordered an inquiry into the matter”.
He further said, “I am very worried about Sanjay Raut and also have sympathy for him. Because he wakes up every morning and keeps accusing the Election Commission, sometimes the court, and sometimes the ruling party. Although I am an orthopaedic surgeon, as a doctor, I feel that he has a disease called Schizophrenia because he lives in such an imaginary world”.

Raut on Tuesday wrote to the police alleging a "threat to life" from CM Shinde's son and MP Shrikant Shinde.
"Lok Sabha member Shrikant Shinde has given a 'supari' (contract) to a Thane-based criminal Raja Thakur to kill me. I have confirmed information regarding the same. I am informing you as a responsible citizen," Raut had said in a letter to the Mumbai police commissioner, copies of which were also sent to deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis who holds the home portfolio.
