1.85 lakh Dial 112 for emergency help in 8 months in Bihar

PATNA: The emergency response support system (ERSS), which runs the Dial 112 service of Bihar Police, has so far provided assistance to 1.85 lakh people under different categories in the last eight months.
According to the data provided by the Bihar police, about 55,000 calls are received on the emergency number daily, out of which 1,000 -1500 are registered and action is taken on them. Earlier, the number of such calls was only 400. The state government had launched the number (112) to provide a single point of contact for people, seeking assistance from police, fire and ambulance services on July 6 last year.

Additional Director General (ADG) of Police (Headquarters) Jitendra Singh Gangwar said of 1.85 lakh complaints registered on Dial 112 service, maximum 44% of them are related to general law and order. “Apart from this, 16% complaints are related domestic violence, 15% of nuisance, 7% of accidents, 4% for medical emergency, 2% of fire incidents, 3% to raise alarm and 9% of them are of other matters, including robbery and land disputes. These figures are from July 6, 2022 to February 21, 2023,” he said.
He added: “It has been designed to enable citizens to send voice calls, SMS, e-mails, panic SOS requests and web requests in case of emergency. Initially police, fire and medical services, have been kept under this single telephone number 112. Later, there are plans to connect other emergency services as well.”
In the first phase, the state has procured 400 emergency response vehicles including 100 for Patna district, while 15 to 25 for each district. These vehicles are equipped with mobile data terminals and GPS navigation system.
During the ongoing Bihar Police Day, the policemen have been asked to make the public aware about the integrated helpline number dial 112 (to register complaints related to criminal incident, accident, arson, medical emergency). Under this, 500 women helpdesks are also functioning at different police stations across the state, where women can reach without any hesitation and get help from the help desk.
