Mega play on Kittur Rani Channamma from today

Belagavi: Rangayana Dharwad will stage ‘Veerarani Kitturu Channamma’, a mega pay here on Thursday and Friday. Dr Ravi Patil of Vijaya Ortho and Trauma Centre has sponsored the shows.
“This is a historical play in which 300 artists will perform. Apart from this, there will be elephants, camels and horses to give richness to this outdoor play,” said the play’s director Ramesh Parvinaikar on Wednesday.
Parvinaikar, who is also the director of Rangayana Dharwad, said the three-hour and 30-minutes play will recreate the past glory of Rani Channamma. So far, 16 shows have been staged and the 17th and 18th shows will be staged at CPEd Ground here.
Parvinaikar said it took them over 18 months to prepare the script after consulting research scholars, historians and eminent theatre personalities. He said it was Janata Raja, a five-hour-long Marathi play on Chhatrapati Shivaji that inspired him to develop the play on Rani Channamma.
Dr Ravi Patil said the show is free for everyone, adding 20,000 chairs have been arranged at the ground. He added that they were expecting more peoplew to come. Chandrashekhar Swamiji of Hukkeri Hiremutt was present. TNN
