Kyle Clark’s moderation skills should go national

Re: “Five key moments from second mayoral debate,” Feb. 18 news story

After watching last night’s Denver mayoral candidate debate/discussion led by 9News’ Kyle Clark, l would like to strongly commend Clark for his excellent job of controlling and managing the discussion among the 13 candidates — not an easy task.

I was completely prepared to be bored for the entire two-hour program but was pleasantly surprised that, through Clark’s skillful work, it was a most informative event. Given his talent and ability in this regard, l suggest that whatever major networks handle the 2024 presidential debates, they should definitely hire him to be their debate manager rather than the usual bumbling talking heads!

Better to slow down for Glenwood Canyon stretch than be detoured

Re: “Officials: Frequent Glenwood Canyon closures ‘unacceptable‘,” Feb. 8 news story

Given the number of road closures throughout the year of Interstate 70 in Glenwood Canyon due to traffic accidents, wouldn’t it be prudent to dramatically reduce the speed limit to somewhere in the 20- to 30-mph range year-round? The canyon road is 12.5 miles long, and even at reduced speed, it is still considerably faster than taking the longer route.

Concern for birds should extend to wind turbines

Re: “Novel tactic used to fight the next Topgolf location,” Feb. 15 news story

I share the concerns of birds flying into the 100-foot-high netting surrounding Topgolf sites. Now if we could only marshal the same concern for the thousands of 400-foot diameter wind turbines, whose blade tips are traveling at well over 100 mph. The killing of birds by Topgolf fencing is insignificant compared to that from a field of wind machines.

Communion, not the time or the place

Re: “Women allege they were denied Communion for rainbow masks,” Feb. 15 news story

God loves memorials. He points that out in numerous places in His word. Jesus commanded us to “Do this in remembrance of Me.” If it’s important to you to honor God, take communion at home as millions worldwide do. A true “devout” Catholic would respect the house of God rather than use it as a battleground for trendy social protests. Surely these women should realize this.
