Get into civil service, top cop tells students in Coimbatore
Students must begin preparing right away if they are determined to become a civil servant, says R Sudhakar, inspector general of police
COIMBATORE: R Sudhakar, inspector general of police (IGP), West Zone, Coimbatore, said students must begin preparing right away if they are determined to become a civil servant.
He insisted on a stress-free preparation for civil service examinations by engaging in physical activities from time to time. He was addressing students of Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science on 'Transform and Lead'. "When I was studying in Class VI, I used to go to the library and it helped improve my reading habits. Students should read many books to improve their knowledge," he said.
He shared about his college experience and what motivated him to opt for civil service. "I joined engineering with a typical Indian mindset. One day I volunteered to help an old man lying on the roadside when no one turned up to help him. His family was suffering as the elderly man was denied salary for his work. I even tried to get him justice. That incident lit a spark within me to clear the civil service examination and serve the society as an IPS officer,' said Sudhakar.
He also elaborated on the difference between the Army and police despite both having weapons. "An Army man uses weapons to kill enemies while a policeman uses weapons to protect people," said Sudhakar.
