The Beaumont United boys basketball team began its attempt at a third straight state title Monday night with a comfortable win, cruising past Pasadena Dobie, 82-47 in a first-round game at Port Arthur Memorial High School.
United, the defending Class 5A champion, didn't seem fazed during its first look at the 6A bracket. The Timberwolves controlled action from start to finish, leading 39-26 at halftime, then busting the game open in the second half.
The Timbwolves (31-1, 14-0) have now won 30 straight games and entered the postseason as the District 21-6A champions. Dobie was the No. 4 seed out of 22-6A.
