Uttar Pradesh moving ahead to be India's second largest economy: Governor Anandiben Patel

LUCKNOW: Governor Anandiben Patel said on Monday that India's growth engine, Uttar Pradesh, is marching ahead to become the country's second largest economy and added that it now contributes over 8% to the national Gross Domestic Product.
Addressing the joint session of both the Houses on the first day of the budget session, amid relentless disruption from the opposition legislators, mainly the ones from Samajwadi Party, the governor spoke at length about the Yogi government's achievement.
In her one-hour speech, Patel said that India's growth engine, Uttar Pradesh, is marching ahead to become the country's second largest economy, adding that it now contributes more than 8% to the national Gross Domestic Product.
She said the UP government has implemented more than 600 reforms under the Business Reform Action Plan. More than 400 online services are being provided to entrepreneurs through the single window portal 'Nivesh Mitra'. Similarly, in order to help investors, an online investment management portal 'Nivesh Sarathi' has been developed for the process of signing MoUs. UP is in the achievers' category in Ease of Doing Business, she said.
She said the state has been witnessing continuous decline in criminal cases owing to the effective steps taken by the government. The governor praised the state government for organising its first Investors Summit in 2018, which brought investment proposals of over Rs 4 lakh crore to UP, which were implemented during the third groundbreaking ceremony and production has started in most of these units.
Patel said various countries were invited to the UP Global Investors Summit-2023 and roadshows were held in 21 cities of the world and many cities in India.
More than 40 countries attended the GIS that turned into “Nivesh ka Mahakumbh,” she said, adding that UP received investment proposals worth Rs 33.52 lakh crore in the GIS which show that the state is also the best in the eyes of investors.
“UP leads the nation in implementation of various schemes run by the central government,” Patel said, adding added that with 8.51 crore accounts, UP is the top state under the PM Jan Dhan Yojana. It also ranks first — with 4.29 crore enrolments under PM Suraksha Bima Yojana, with 75 lakh enrolments under the Atal Pension Yojana, under PM SVANidhi Yojana.
She said grants of Rs 10,000, Rs 20,000, and Rs 50,000 are being made available to urban street vendors through first, second and third interest subsidy-based loans through banks. UP has got first place in the country in total loan disbursement, she said.
The total number of GST registration issued in the state has gone up to 28 lakh, which is the highest in the country, the governor said SP members continued with sloganeering throughout the governor’s address. After Patel's address, Speaker Satish Mahana adjourned the House till 12.20pm. The House sat for another one hour completing the day’s activity.
