After IPL, now Tata Group bags title rights for Women's Premier League

The Indian multinational conglomerate has reportedly inked a deal securing the rights for five years. The WPL is set to start in Mumbai on March 4, with matches being played at the Brabourne Stadium and DY Patil Stadium.

With mere weeks left for the inaugural Women's Premier League, the Tata group has been announced as its title sponsor. The development comes less than a year after the company replaced Vivo as the title sponsor of the hugely popular Indian Premier League.

“I am delighted to announce the Tata Group as the title sponsor of the inaugural WPL. With their support, we're confident that we can take women's cricket to the next level," tweeted BCCI secretary Jay Shah.

According to a PTI report quoting BCCI sources, the Indian multinational conglomerate has inked a deal securing the rights for five years. The WPL is set to start in Mumbai on March 4, with matches being played at the Brabourne Stadium and DY Patil Stadium.

The first season of the Women's Premier League will have five teams competing for the trophy - Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore and UP Warriorz.

The five teams were sold for 4700 crore and the sale of media rights had fetched the BCCI 951 crore and the five teams were sold for 4700 crore.

India's Smriti Mandhana went to Royal Challengers Bangalore for a whopping 3.40 crore while Australia all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner and England all-rounder Natalie Sciver were sold to Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians for 3.20 crore respectively. Team India Captain Harmanpreet Kaur was sold to Mumbai Indians for 1.80 crore.
