Stephen Colbert on Monday ridiculed a reassurance the CEO of Norfolk Southern Corp. gave following the fiery derailment of a freight train carrying hazardous chemicals in East Palestine, Ohio.

Railroad chief Alan Shaw said over the weekend that restarting freight service along the same stretch of track was safe. But when asked if “none of the soil underneath the rail lines is contaminated,” he replied: “I didn’t say that.”

“Not great,” responded Colbert.
