One nation, one law is the concept behind a universal civil code that would be applicable to all religious groups. Section 4, Article 44 of the indian Constitution specifically mentions the term "Uniform Civil Code." In accordance with Article 44, the State shall endeavour to obtain for the Citizens a civil code that is the same throughout all of India.

The "Directive Principles of State Policy" are contained in Part 4 of the indian Constitution. These elements only give a direction to the states, they are not enforceable in any court. The Directive Principles of State Policy are like an advisory to the states. According to this, 'The Central and State Governments are directed that while making laws, they should keep in mind the Directive Principles. A unified civil code should exist for all citizens, according to Article 44 of the Constitution.

Article 44 says, 'The State shall endeavour to secure for the citizens a uniform civil code throughout the territory of India.' Explaining the article, it is clear that it is just advice. Religious organizations oppose the Uniform Civil Code. Religious organizations feel that if this law is implemented, their personal laws will be in danger. Islamic organizations oppose this law the most.

Article 44

According to Article 44, which is consistent with the Directive Principles of State Policy, the State shall make every effort to offer its citizens a uniform civil code (UCC) over the whole territory of India.
