BHUBANESWAR: The budget session of Odisha assembly, scheduled to begin on Tuesday, is likely to be turbulent if the mood of opposition parties is any indication.
Both BJP and Congress have geared up to corner the government on the unsolved murder of influential minister Naba Das who was shot dead by a policeman on January 29.
Speaking to reporters after attending a legislature party meeting of the BJP, opposition chief whip Mohan Majhi said the minister's murder shows law and order has totally collapsed in the state.
"Twenty-three days after the murder, the crime branch has made no headway in the probe. We will raise the issue and ensure people know the truth," he said.
The BJP has been pressing for a CBI probe into the murder.
Congress Legislature Party leader Narasingha Mishra said one can imagine the plight of the common man in a state where a minister is not safe. "I have said this time and again that Naba's assassination is part of a deep-rooted conspiracy. There is a question mark on the ongoing investigation. We will press for a special investigation team to be appointed by the Orissa high court and judicial monitoring of the probe," he said.
Currently, the crime branch has been conducting the probe with administrative monitoring of the HC. However, the investigating agency has not spoken about the motive of the crime yet.
