Gumla: Millet laddoos under the brand name Johar Ragi Laddoos were a big hit and sold like hot cakes in Chhattisgarh Millet Carnival that concluded on Sunday in Raipur.
The ambitious event organised jointly by the Chhattisgarh state Minor Forest Produce Cooperative Federation Ltd and Nutrihub — ICAR — IIMR aims to take the millet mission forward by bringing stakeholders and experts on one platform in the current International Year of Millets in the neighbouring state.
Visitors to Gumla stall shopped for packets of this nutritional product prepared by tribal women’s group of Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society Ltd (JSLPSL) after tasting it.
“Gumla product was awarded a spot in the huge carnival with short notice and our producers group could take only 200 packets of millet laddoos for their show. About 500 gram each packet of the same was easily sold out for Rs 300 as the shoppers showed preference for it,” said JSLPSL district programme manager Sujit Bari.
A group of 13 members, including JSLPSL women and other officials, set up a stall in the carnival which had 50 stalls of millet products from 15 states of the country. While flagging off the group on Friday evening, Gumla DC Sushant Gaurav said, “After its popularity in the district, now it is being taken to a higher level for its wider exposure. I have full faith in the women SHGs who will make their endeavour an impressive and sustainable business model for promotion of the administration’s Ragi Mission.”
