KALABURAGI: A man and a woman, who were in love and got separated after the woman's marriage to another person, allegedly committed suicide by consuming pesticide on Saturday night.
The deaths were reported from Hursagundagi village in Yadagir district.
The woman, Suvarna Basavaraj, 22, had been married for two years. Prior to that she was in a relationship with Eshappa Yamanappa, 24, who was from a different caste and a resident of the same village as Suvarna's. It is suspected that the families refused to endorse their relationship because of caste biases.
After marriage, Suvarna moved to Bengaluru with her husband, but on Saturday, she arrived in the village. Her husband was unaware that Suvarna had come to the village.
Eshappa called Suvarna to a field. He had a pesticide bottle with him. They spoke for nearly an hour after which both consumed the pesticide and died.
By the time villagers arrived to the field, Suvarna was dead. Eshappa died a couple of hours after he was admitted to a hospital.
