Eye on Lok Sabha polls: BSP focus set on most backward castes in UP
The 'chalo gaon ki oar' programme was launched on party chief Mayawati's birthday on January 15.
LUCKNOW: The BSP has set its focus on Most Backward Castes (MBCs) in UP for the Lok Sabha elections.
The party's strategy has accordingly been planned.
The 'chalo gaon ki oar' programme — which is at the roots of the party's plan — is aimed at reaching out to the most backward castes in villages and sensitizing them on works done by the BSP government for their betterment in the state in the past.

The 'chalo gaon ki oar' programme was launched on party chief Mayawati's birthday on January 15 to build communication with voters at the grassroot level and convince them that BSP is sensitive towards their needs and problems.
"The party has caste-wise data of every assembly segment which can be worked out further to find out how many people of which caste are present in every district, village, sector or booth. Based on that data, nukkad meetings are being organised in villages," said party insiders.
The party leaders from each of these most backward castes have a major role to play, which is to mobilise people from their caste and community and draw them to these meetings.
"This is the reason why a combination of leaders is addressing these meetings. If one is a Muslim leader the other may be from the most backward caste," said sources.
"BSP state president Vishwanath Pal, who comes from the most backward caste, has already addressed meetings of party workers and followers at the divisional level. The nukkad meetings are also being held regularly in villages," said national spokesperson of the party Dharamveer Chaudhary.
The purpose of the nukkad meetings is to convince these voters that the BSP government has worked the most for their upliftment through the welfare schemes that ensured housing, electricity, water and other basic requirements for the poor.
The law and order condition during Mayawati's regimes in the past and that there were no communal riots also figure among the achievements shared with the voters.
