PATNA: Deputy CM Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on Saturday stressed on the need for opposition's unity against BJP and asked the Congress to take a decision in this regard soon.
"The opposition parties are determined to remove BJP from the Centre in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, but the Congress is not making any solid efforts. I urge the Congress to take the lead in opposition unity. Congress has a direct fight with BJP in the country. At the same time, it should also allow regional parties to stay in the driving seat in states where they are stronger," Tejashwi said, while addressing the gathering at 11th Congress of the CPI(ML) here.
He urged everyone to talk on issues related to common man and the country, and not on PM Modi. "I have been saying time and again that don't talk on Modi, rather talk on mudda (issues). What are the issues in the country? They are price rise, unemployment, problems of farmers, labrourers and economic situation of the country. But discussion is done on Hindu-Muslim, Mandir-Masjid, cow and Kashmir," Tejashwi said.
Tejashwi further praised CM Nitish Kumar for leaving the BJP and switching to Mahagatbandhan. "I am thankful to CM Nitish Ji for taking a decision to save the Constitution and the democracy. He came to us and we got strength," he added.
The younger Yadav scion also blamed a certain section of the media for intentionally diverting attention from important issues. Without taking the name of Dhirendra Shastri of Bageshwar Dham, Tejashwi said few 'babas' have been portrayed as 'Guru' who talk of 'Hindu Rashtra' like divide and rule policy adopted by the Britishers.
