India vs Australia 2nd Test Match Highlights IND Beat AUS by Six Wickets to Retain Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Lead Series 2-0

Well, that ended in the blink of an eye, didn’t it? The second day ended with Australian players sporting big smiles after reaching 61/1 in their second dig. The Test was nicely poised, potential for a thrilling finish. India would have been preparing for a 200-plus chase. And then the scenario changed dramatically. Ravindra Jadeja began the demolition job on the 2nd day itself when he got rid of Usman Khawaja but the majority of it came in the morning session when he ran through Australian batting order like a hot knife through butter. He finished with figures of 7/42 as the tourists crumbled against spin to be bowled out for 113 before the session would end. Not to forget, Ravichandran Ashwin was the bowler who kick-started the collapse when he removed overnight batter Travis Head on 43. He finished with three wickets.

India’s chase began with the dismissal of KL Rahul to Nathan Lyon in the second over itself. However, Rohit Sharma batted with a positive mindset, hitting boundaries and his entertaining innings of 31 was cut short thanks to a mix-up with Cheteshwar Pujara resulting his run out. Virat Kohli was looking good but he was stumped for the first time in his Test career and Shreyas Iyer played a couple of good shots before perishing himself.

However, Pujara continued to bat the way he does. And saw through a successful chase, hitting the winning boundary as India overhauled the target in 26.4 overs to finish with 118/4 and win by six wickets. They take a 2-0 lead in the four-match series and also retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Wicketkeeper KS Bharat walks in next after the dismissal of Shreyas Iyer in Delhi. He got off the mark with a single off Nathan Lyon and then added a couple more off Matt Kuhnemann. India 91/4, need 24 runs to win the second Test.

WICKET! Shreyas Iyer wants to finish this quickly but it’s Nathan Lyon who wins this battle. Having struck a six in the previous over, bowled by Todd Murphy, Iyer wants another big hit and this time takes on Lyon. However, he finds a fielder in the deep to be caught on 12. Todd Murphy drops it short and Cheteshwar Pujara has enough time to go back and thrash it through point for a four. And then Shreyas Iyer dances down the track and lifts the final delivery over midwicket region for a six. 11 runs from it. IND 87/3, chasing 115.

So that was the first time that Virat Kohli has been stumped in his Test career – first in 180 innings. And incidentally, it’s the first stumping of Australia wicketkeeper Alex Carey’s career as well. Shreyas Iyer walks in next.

Virat Kohli steps out and lifts the first delivery of the over from Nathan Lyon for a four to long-on. With that, he has taken his runs tally in international cricket past 25,000 – the quickest ever to the milestone.

With a single, Virat Kohli brings up India’s 50 in 10.3 Overs. They need 65 more to win with eight wickets remaining.

Cheteshwar Pujara has been repeatedly charging down the track to Nathan Lyon, attempting to smother the spin. This time he reaches to the pitch of the ball and lofts it over the infield for a four to long-on. 5 runs from the over. IND 47/2 in 10 Overs, chasing 115.
