Raleigh, N.C. — A week after Wake Forest stunned Millbrook 58-56, the Cougars and Wildcats found themselves in a tightly contested Northern Athletic Conference Tournament Championship.
Millbrook clung to a one possession lead in the final moments of the third before Kyrie Heredia connected on a corner three that would spark a game-ending 46-16 run for the Wildcats who would go on to win 109-76.
Six different Wildcats scored in double figures led by the trio of Colt Langdon, Jayan Walker and Gabe Cerda which combined for 70 points.
Walker’s 7 seven first quarter points staked Millbrook out to an 18-17 lead through one.
Wake Forest would answer with a run of its own before Cerda created separation. 6 of the senior’s 11 first half points fell in the second. Jacob Lawton ended the half with 8 straight points of his own to inflate the Wildcats advantage to 43-37 at the break.
A.J. Smalls and Jaevian Alston heated up in the opening five minutes of the third helping pull the Cougars even as the game entered its final ten minutes.
The Wildcat run that ensued was unparalleled. Langdon scored 10 of his game-high 26 points in the fourth. Walker went a perfect 6-for-6 from the line in the period, then put the icing on the cake by breaking the century mark with a pair of three-point baskets.
Millbrook improved to 19-7 this season with the victory. It will be seeded as the conference champion from the NAC-6 after winning both the regular season and conference tournament titles. Wake Forest will qualify as an at large bid holding a season record of 17-10.
