In all his years of coaching wrestling, Tony D'Ambrosio has never seen a situation quite like this.

Two wrestlers on his Imlay City team are in the midst of nearly identical seasons. They each recorded their 100th career victory in January. Earlier this month, they were BWAC champions in their respective weight classes. Then last week, both won individual district titles.

But the biggest coincidence? The two wrestlers are D'Ambrosio's sons, Anthony and Dominic.

"It's been exciting," Tony D'Ambrosio said. "They're both different wrestlers as far as the way they get things done. During the matches, they're completely different, but they've gone on to accomplish the same things at the same time. It's unique and pretty special."

Anthony D'Ambrosio (senior, 150 pounds) and Dominic D'Ambrosio (junior, 132 pounds) will continue their stellar seasons at the Division 3 individual regional tournaments in Richmond on Saturday.

"I think it's been a fun little competition between us," Anthony D'Ambrosio said. "If (Dominic) is a champ, I've got to be a champ. If I'm going to be, then he's got to be (too) … we both have our (district tournament) brackets and you see the champions are the D'Ambrosio brothers."

"It's been great," Dominic D'Ambrosio said. "Because we've been working our whole lives for this. And it's just fun. It's fun going out there and wrestling (together) every day for over a decade. We're both almost at the ends of our paths and it's just been great."

Anthony D'Ambrosio will enter regionals with a 44-6 record this year. As for Dominic, he's currently 50-2.

"(What I'll take away from this season) is that you can always be a level above from where you were when you started," Anthony D'Ambrosio said.

"This season, I've probably worked harder than every other season I've wrestled," Dominic D'Ambrosio said. "This weekend, I'm going to wrestle as hard as I can and take it how I get it. Whatever happens, happens."
