Kevin Love’s nine-year run with the Cleveland Cavaliers reportedly is coming to an end.
The Cavaliers and Love are finalizing a contract buyout that would make the five-time All-Star a free agent, The Athletic and ESPN reported Thursday.
Love, 34, is making $28.9 million in the final season of the four-year, $120.4 million extension he signed with the Cavaliers in July 2018. Love is the last remaining member of Cleveland’s 2016 championship winning team.
The Miami Heat are expected to emerge as a top suitor for Love, per The Athletic.
Love is averaging 8.5 points and 6.8 rebounds per game in 41 games (three starts) this season. He was removed from the rotation a few weeks ago and hasn’t played in the Cavs’ past 12 games.
He requested a buyout Wednesday, per ESPN.
Love’s next team would be just his third in 15 seasons. Taken No. 5 overall in the 2008 draft, Love is averaging 17.2 points and 10.5 rebounds in 853 games (662 starts) for the Minnesota Timberwolves (2008-14) and Cavs.
