Torrington Police DepartmentTORRINGTON — An older woman was seriously injured when her car crashed through a hair salon Wednesday afternoon, police said.
The woman, a 70-year-old Torrington resident, was flown to Hartford Hospital, Torrington Police Lt. Brett Johnson said. Johnson said the cause of the crash remains under investigation by the department's accident reconstruction team.
Torrington police responded to the intersection of New Litchfield Street, also known as Route 202, and Litchfield Street around 3:20 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a one-car crash, according to Johnson. Responding officers determined a blue 2016 Subaru Forrester traveling south on Litchfield Street went through the intersection before smashing into the left side of a hair salon on New Litchfield Street.
The car continued through the salon and came to a stop in the rear parking lot, according to Johnson. An employee and a customer were inside at the time of the incident, but did not report any injuries, Johnson said. While the building sustained “heavy damage,” Johnson said, it was deemed structurally safe.
Following the crash, police closed the stretch of Route 202 between Litchfield Street and Peck Road, according to Johnson.
