Four arrested in connection with Chollas View ambush, attempted murder
The suspects mistook a man for a rival gang member, yelled gang challenges and then opened fire, according to police. The man was not injured.
Four men were arrested Wednesday after an almost yearlong investigation into an ambush and attempted murder in the Chollas View community, San Diego police said.
The incident happened about 4 a.m. on March 15, 2022. A man was getting into his car to go to work when he was blocked in by two other vehicles on Hilltop Drive near 47th Street, police said.
People inside the two vehicles mistook the man for a rival gang member, yelled gang challenges and then opened fire, according to police. The man was not injured.
During the course of an 11-month investigation, detectives identified three men suspected in the shooting and a fourth man suspected of weapons trafficking, police said.
San Diego and National City SWAT teams served four warrants at each of the men’s residences on Wednesday, and all four were taken into custody without incident. Investigators also found an unregistered AR-15-style ghost gun, ammunition, high-capacity ammunition magazines and body armor at one of the homes, but did not say which.
The suspects are expected to be arraigned in San Diego Superior Court on Friday.
