Edward A. Ornelas /San Antonio Express-NewsAs a member of San Antonio comedy troupe Comedia A Go Go and a revered comedian in his own right, the Alamo City is mourning the loss of Larry Garza, who died on Tuesday, February 14 at the age of 41. A Facebook post shared Tuesday confirmed that Garza “fought a good fight” against his cancer.
“He’s not in pain anymore,” the Facebook post concluded. Many San Antonians commented on the post, as well as on Instagram, sharing their condolences to the Garza family and love for the comedian.
Members of the San Antonio community, including fellow local comedians, paid their respects to Garza in touching tribute posts on social media.
Garza had battled cancer for more than five years leading up to his death. He shared updates about his battle with cancer on social media.
Given his diagnosis, Garza hosted his own joint memorial roast in 2021, granting the comedian the chance to enjoy seeing friends, family, and the San Antonio community celebrate his life.
“If I'm going to die, I'm going to die laughing,” Garza previously told MySA.
In November 2022, the beloved comedian entered hospice care after his family was told “there are no more options,” according to a GoFundMe update at the time. Ahead of hospice care, Garza’s family said the San Antonio personality had experienced severe anemia, which led to frequent blood transfusions and a pathologic fracture that prompted surgery that Garza never fully recovered from.
