February in Rochester? Could this be right?

Forecasters predict a high in the mid 60s on Wednesday in our area. The temperature could surpass the record high for the day of 61 degrees, set in 1949, said National Weather Service Meteorologist Tony Ansuini.

The very mild weather comes after three straight days at or approaching 50 degrees.

Wednesday, however, will also be breezy as sustained winds between 25 and 35 mph and gusts up to 55 mph are predicted, Ansuini said.

The Weather Service issued a wind advisory for parts of western New York, including Monroe Ontario and Livingston counties, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Wednesday. A high wind warning is in effect in the same timeframe in the Buffalo area, including in Genesee and Orleans counties, where wind gusts are expected to reach 60 mph.

Thursday is also expected to be warmer than normal, with a predicted high in the mid-40s.

The normal high in Rochester in mid-February is 35, according to the Weather Service.

How long will the nice weather in Rochester last?

More seasonable wintry weather is expected in the Rochester region this weekend, according to Weather Service.

A cold front will move through the region Thursday night - bringing the potential for rain and thunderstorms Thursday evening - and some minor snow, Ansuini said.

The predicted high for Friday is 30, on Saturday in the upper 30s and in the upper 40s for Sunday.

"That's a little cold snap," he said. "We just can't keep any cold air over the area."
