Courtesy San Antonio International AirportSan Antonio's Director of Airports Jesus Saenz says that the planned $2.5 billion airport expansion will make it a global travel destination that will sustain local and international travel up until 2040. Airport officials revealed on Wednesday, February 15, a look at the new terminal that will expand the number of gates at the San Antonio International Airport by up to 17.
Saenz and representatives with architecture firms Corgan and Lake Flato unveiled the first look at the new terminal that is expected to open in the second quarter of 2028. On top of adding new gates to the airport, Saenz says that the airport will also expand concessions space and have gate seating that is double than what's available in the current terminals.

Saenz said that the new terminal will make SAT a world-class airport that fits in the existing airport property.

The new terminal will also expand on seating outside and in the gate areas.

Some council members like Councilwoman Teri Castillo were concerned with the look of the preliminary designs not fitting the San Antonio aesthetic.
"I don't get any 'puro San Antonio' feel," said Councilman Mario Bravo.
Saenz said that there is still a lot of work to be done like textile choice, to get to the point where Terminal C will provide that "sense of place" council members seek.
