Teen found hanging, police say parents stopped him from playing phone games
Noida: A 15-year-old boy ended his life on Sunday by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his home in the Beta 2 area of Greater Noida. A police investigation has revealed that he was upset over his parents not getting his phone repaired to stop him from playing games on it.
According to police, the teenager lived with his parents and two younger sisters.
“On Sunday night, we received information about a suicide case from Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida at the Beta 2 police station. A team rushed to the hospital and found out that a 15-year-old boy had hanged himself from a ceiling fan using a dupatta. The doctors had declared him ‘brought dead’ on arrival,” said Saad Miya Khan, deputy commissioner of police, Greater Noida.
On Monday, police sent the body for a postmortem.
“His family revealed that the teenager’s mobile phone broke down seven days ago, and they would not get it repaired, which made him angry and upset. The parents said their child wasted a lot of time playing games on the phone, so they were not getting the phone repaired,” a senior police officer said on Monday.
He said that when the boy took the extreme step, the parents were at home only.
“He argued with his parents about getting his phone repaired, and when they scolded him, he hanged himself. The parents immediately took him to the hospital,” the officer said, adding that the father works as a gardener, and the family is financially weak.
