Mandya: Even as the state BJP is grappling with the issue of appointment of a minister as Mandya district in-charge, higher education minister CN Ashwath Narayan on Tuesday held a meeting of BJP party workers at Mandya.
After revenue minister R Ashoka was relieved from the post as the district in-charge minister last week, the CM Basavaraj Bommai has not tasked any minister with the job. It is now, believed that Ashwath Narayan will be asked to take up the assignment.
Ashwath Narayan participated in a meeting of BJP party workers organised on Tuesday in Satanur village of Mandya taluk. Speaking to the reporters, he said he has no information about who will be made in-charge of Mandya district. “I have come to Mandya today because of this party programme. I participated in the programme from the perspective of party organisation. Bommai will appoint the district in-charge shortly,” he said.
Asked about SDPI reportedly planning to field an accused in the murder case of Hindu activist Praveen Nettaru, the minister said any person can contest elections if allowed under the law. “They can compete within the framework of law. BJP cannot decide who should contest from another party. Every citizen has the right to contest in the elections,” he said.
The minister, however, said the BJP will release the candidates list after the poll schedule is announced.
