Experience Diamond City in its virtual avatar

SURAT: Looking at the relevance of metaverse in our digitalized lives, the Surat Municipal Corporation plans to give Diamond City a virtual avatar too to help people anywhere across the world get a real-time feel of the city. The civic body’s idea for the avatar is to give a virtual tour of the city’s important industry and infrastructure to boost tourism and economy.
The SMC will project city’s leading industries like diamond and textile along with top infrastructure projects and also the showcase the processes of these industries virtually on screen.
“One will be able to see how diamonds are polished from rough and how these stones are used in jewellery making. The process of textile manufacturing and processing is also an interesting content to watch for those who have never seen it,” Shalini Agarwal, city municipal commissioner told TOI.
“Without visiting the city physically, one can still get an idea of how its industry and infrastructure performs. This will encourage people to visit the city,” she added.
Major infrastructure projects like flyovers, bridges, water treatment plant and waste management process will also be shown virtually.
Recently, the Integrated Command and Control Centre was inaugurated where the civic body is developing its IT headquarter. From ICCC, the civic body will be able to monitor services across the city. It will also serve the purpose of a bank of data for the civic body to be compared and analysed for better delivery of service.
Through CCTV monitoring from the ICCC, the civic body recently started identifying spots where cattle menace is severe and rampant.
