COIMBATORE: A special team led by assistant commissioner of police Parthiban has been working to nab a notorious gang leader Kamarajapuram Gowtham who has been evading arrest for more than two years.
Police sources said Gowtham used to post videos on Instagram. He has been operating a group of youths in Kannappa Nagar as his gang members.
Gowtham is facing more than ten assault cases in Coimbatore. He used to wear gold chains, bracelets, rings. He was a frequent flier and posted the travel videos on his Instagram page ‘Gowtham Kamarajapuram’. The page has 7,414 followers. He has posted 38 videos on his Instagram page.
“We have collected the details of Gowtham and came to know that he had not used any mobile numbers for the last two years. However, he was operating his Instagram accounts with the help of public Wi-Fi facilities. He also used to make video calls using Instagram. We have formed a special team led by an assistant commissioner of police Parthiban to nab Gowtham,” said Coimbatore city commissioner of police V Balakrishnan.
G Chandeesh, deputy commissioner of police (North Range), Coimbatore city said, “Many youngsters see him as a mass gang leader. Gowtham used to instruct the youngsters over Instagram video calls to execute some assaults. If the youngsters in Kannappa Nagar in the city refused to execute, he would threaten them that he would arrange another team to finish off the youngsters,” said Chandeesh.
The special police team has been working on various angles to nab Kamarajapuram Gowtham.
A few weeks ago, more than 20 people barged into a house at Chinnavedampatti and assaulted a college student and ransacked his house. The gang questioned the college student to know the whereabouts of Kamarajapuram Gowtham. The city police were planning to conduct an inquiry with the college student and close friends of Gowtham to trace his whereabouts.
