Arizona high school finals guide: AIA winter sports championships dates, venues, times

AIA Open Division basketball is headed to the quarterfinals this weekend, while the conference tournaments begin this week.

State playoffs for soccer are starting this week. And the state wrestling tournaments for boys and girls run Thursday through Saturday.

Here is a guide to the Arizona Interscholastic Association winter sports championships' sites, times and dates.

Basketball

Open Division tournament quarterfinals are Friday for girls and Saturday for boys at the sites of the highest seeds starting at 7 p.m. The semifinals will also be at the highest seeds' sites on Feb. 23 for girls and Feb. 24 for boys at 7 p.m. The championship games will be held at Veteran's Memorial Coliseum in Phoenix on March 4 as a double-header with the girls state final at 3 p.m. followed by the boys state final at 5:30.

March 4 at VMC is dedicated to the Open and 6A for boys and girls. The 6A girls championship is set for 10 a.m., followed by the 6A boys final at 12:30 p.m.

The 5A girls final at VMC is at 6 p.m., followed by the 5A boys final at 8, on March 3. On March 2, the 4A girls final is at 6 p.m., at VMC, followed by the boys final at 8.

The 3A girls and boys championship games will be played on Feb. 25 at VMC. The time has yet to be set. This depends on how well the reservation schools do. Reservation schools will get the best time slot because they draw the most fans.

The 2A girls and boys finals are on the same day, place and time to be determined.

The 1A girls final is this Saturday at Findlay Toyota Center in Prescott Valley at 4 p.m., followed by the boys final at 6.

Soccer

The state playoffs begin Tuesday at the higher seeds at 6 p.m. The 6A boys final is on Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. at Mesa Dobson, following the 6A girls title game at 4:30. The girls 5A final is at 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 25 at Dobson. The 5A final for boys is on the same date and location at 2 p.m.

The 4A boys final is on Feb. 24 at Glendale High at 7 p.m., following the 4A girls final at 4:45 p.m.

The 3A championship game for boys is this Saturday at 4:30 p.m., at Mesa Westwood, following the 3A girls final at 2 p.m.

Wrestling

The boys and girls state wrestling tournaments run Thursday through Saturday at VMC. On Thursday, Division I boys wrestling begins at 8:30 a.m., and Division II at 1 p.m., and Division III at 5:30 p.m. On Friday, Division IV begins at 8:30 a.m., for boys. The girls Division I wrestling begins at 12:30 p.m., on Friday. At 5 p.m., on Friday, wrestling for the all of the boys and girls' divisions start. The semifinals at at 7 p.m., Friday. On Saturday, the girls start at 9:30 a.m., and the boys for all divisions at 11 a.m. All divisions' placement rounds are at 1 p.m. There will be a parade of champions at 4:30 p.m., followed by the championship finals starting at 5 p.m.
