COIMBATORE: Students of a private engineering college near Sulur clashed with guest workers in the college’s mess on Monday. A video of the clash between the students and workers went viral on social media.
It is learnt that the guest workers attacked students with wooden logs. In retaliation, the students gathered together, beat up the workers and attacked them with plates. Three mess workers and two students suffered were injured in the clash.
The clash broke out at the RVS Engineering college in Kannampalayam when hundreds of students were having dinner at the mess. The clash erupted when students questioned the quality of chicken served to them. A Sulur police team was called in to control the situation.
College principal S Vijayan told reporters that a communication gap between the workers and the students led to the clash. He said the guest workers had been evicted from the campus to prevent any other untoward incident. He asked the parents not to panic as the issue has been resolved and normalcy was restored on the college premises. Police and the college administration are inquiring into the incident.
