■Gail Fungaroli, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Fungaroli of 66 Federal St., has been named to “Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities.” Miss Fungaroli has been active at North Adams State College for the past three years. She is a junior majoring in English and drama.

■A 91-year-old Northampton grandmother, whose grandson is still a POW in Hanoi, said today that the good physical condition of the first group of returning American prisoners has been a relief. Mrs. Mary Cutter said she did not know when her grandson, Air Force Capt. James Cutter, 31, a former Northampton resident, will be departing for the United States.

■Billed as a salute to homegrown talent, the Really Big Show at the Academy of Music yesterday was aptly titled, matching size with the sheer variety of acts in the more than two-hour performance. The show featured a slew of local acts, such as musicians, dancers, comedians, solo singers, jugglers and pet tricks.

■Smith Vocational and Agricultural School officials have wasted no time in advertising for a full-time farm manager to replace Ed Maltby. Citizen advocates for the school farm, meanwhile, plan to meet in the school’s barn Sunday to discuss their views in the wake of Maltby’s announcement Feb. 7 that he will leave the job as of April 5.

■People with unwanted or expired medications at home can now safely dispose of them 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Northwestern district attorney’s office announced Wednesday that 15 police departments throughout Hampshire and Franklin counties have new, permanent drop-off boxes for old medications.

■After a long dispute with the trustees of the Goodwin Memorial Library, the Hadley Historical Society is moving its collection out of the library. Jane Babcock, the director of the library, said she first noticed historical society members removing items from the second floor around Jan. 13. She said they continued to remove pieces of the collection, including boxes of documents, clothing and scrapbooks, over the next couple of weeks.
