WATERFORD — Mo Malih, who worked as a chef at area French restaurants including the original Chez Nous in Schenectady and the former Le Canard Enchainé in Albany, recently opened his own place.
Called Le Quai Bistrot Francais, it is located at 49 Broad St., taking over a space that was the Mediterranean-themed Ze Cuisine & Cafe for about a year, through August, and before that Broad Street Cafe.
The small opening menu offers five starters, four mains and two desserts, with daily features including pissaladiere, which is basically a thick-crust French anchovy pizza. Most are classic French dishes, among them country paté, mushroom-chestnut soup, rabbit with mustard sauce and fluke with grenobloise sauce.
Regular hours are 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday to Saturday, closed Sunday to Tuesday, although it is open for Valentine's Day. The bar seats about six, the dining room about 35, and there looks to be room for sidewalk dining after the weather warms. The restaurant serves beer and wine, but a beverage list appears to not yet be online.
