Thiruvananthapuram/Ko-zhikode: The UDF day-night strike demanding the state government to withdraw the "unscientific tax proposals" made in the budget began at the secretariat and district collectorates on Monday evening. It will conclude at 10am on Tuesday.
Inaugurating the statewide strike at Kidson Corner in Kozhikode, opposition leader V D Satheesan said the LDF government had put the burden of its administrative mismanagement on the shoulders of common people. The government was now recovering, along with interest, the aid it had provided in the form of ‘kits’ during the floods, he said.
Satheesan said the state was witnessing a tax anarchy as anyone can do business by bringing in goods without payment of taxes. “The administration has failed even in collecting taxes, and that too to the tune of crores of rupees,” he said.
