West Bengal's Bandel railway station to get Rs 349-crore facelift

KOLKATA: Eastern Railway's general manager Arun Arora on Tuesday held a crucial meeting for speedy execution of the Rs 349-crore Bandel station redevelopment project at the ER headquarters at Fairlie Place in Kolkata.
This junction station, which connects both the Sealdah and Howrah division, will undergo a magficent metamorphosis once the project is implemented. The redevelopment project includes modern station building in the model of Old Jubilee Bridge, which is a landmark railway heritage.
All principal heads of departments & DRMs of Howrah & Sealdah divisions were present at the meeting to discuss how effectively the project could be implemented on a fast-track mode.
The station will have segregation of arrival and departure passengers to avoid conflict of movement among incoming and outgoing passengers. There will be separate foot over-bridge each flow.
The detailed discussion also gave emphasis on passenger-friendly signages, setting up of retail outlets, hospitality units, food court and state of the art waiting plaza.
Arora also stressed on well illuminated, yet energy efficient passenger circulation area, passenger drop off and pick up zones.
The rooftop food plaza, retail zones, washroom area, ATMs, outlet for One-Station-One-Product, play zone for kids, pharmacy, internet/Wi-Fi connectivity, will give passengers a wholesome experience.
For seamless ingress and egress of the passengers, ER will facilitate integration with other modes of public transport.
The station will be equipped with an escalator, lift and staircase for passengers' comfort. To avoid traffic jams, an elevated drop off with multilayer parking have been planned.
