Central agencies quiz Muzaffarpur time bombs case accused
National Investigation Agency (NIA)
PATNA: Teams of Intelligence Bureau (IB), National Investigation Agency (NIA), Bihar ATS (anti-terrorism squad) and the one from Uttar Pradesh visited the spot and interrogated accused Mohd Jawed Ahmed separately in the case related to the recovery of three timer-fitted bombs in Muzaffarpur's Teen Kothiya locality on Saturday.
SSP Rakesh Kumar said the accused was interrogated by different investigative agencies, but no terror angle or foreign connection surfaced in this case so far. "Jawed told the police that his brother Mohd Jackie had given him a bag containing smack (drug) to keep for two days, but he was not aware about the time bombs and five cartridges kept in the bag. The police are now trying to trace Jackie, who is an accused in several other cases," he said.
"The case has been registered at Mithanpura police station on the statement of SHO Shrikant Sinha. Jawed has been sent to jail. He has been booked under relevant sections of IPC, Arms Act, NDPS Act and Explosive Substances Act," the SSP added.
The matter came to light on Saturday when the police, acting on a tip-off, raided a rented accommodation in Teen Kothiya and found three youths consuming smack. During the search of the room, a bomb equipped with lethal substance and three electronic circuits with timer were recovered. The recovered bombs with timer did not have a switch, detonator or splinter.
Jawed's nephew and helper Umair, a native of Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh were detained for interrogation. They used to work as ferrymen in Muzaffarpur. The district police raided Umair's house in Bulandshahr, but nothing objectionable was recovered from there.
