NORTHAMPTON – Ava Azzaro scored 23 points, as the Northampton girls basketball team handled Ludlow 80-14 on Monday.

The Blue Devils won their third game in a row down the stretch with senior night against West Springfield next on the docket Tuesday against West Springfield (7:30 p.m.).

Northampton (10-7, 6-3 Valley) opened the game on a 32-2 run that extended into the second quarter. The Blue Devils scored 27 points in a row at one point.

“We just want to keep our streak going. We want to play the rest of our games of the season just like we did,” Azzaro said. “We played our hearts out.”

Northampton opened the second half with a 16-0 run after taking a 35-7 lead into halftime. The advantage ballooned to 50 with 5:41 to go after Bri Hefey hit a 3.

Sarah Molnar’s layup with 3:33 remaining pushed the advantage to 60 (71-11).

“The mentality (Monday) was totally we were right where we were supposed to be. We worked our butts off,” Azzaro said. “If we keep doing that, we’ll be on the road to success.”

Chloe Denhart added 12 points, while Molnar had nine for the Blue Devils.

Northampton’s Heafey and Imanni Power-Greene added eight each.

Power-Greene hit two 3s in the fourth quarter that sent the Hamp bench into hysterics for the freshman.

“That's the most important thing. All of these girls are the most selfless players I've ever played with,” Azzaro said. “She's younger, and she's been working her butt off. To see her apply to a game, that is so awesome. All those younger guys deserve it like that.”

All 10 Blue Devils played, while nine of them scored.
