THANE: The much-awaited Digha railway station on the Thane-Vashi-Panvel route could be made operational by the month's end, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Rajan Vichare announced on Monday.
Vichare who visited the station premises on the fringes of Thane and Navi Mumbai told media the work on the station was nearly 95 per cent complete and could be flagged off latest by the month's end.
The project is being executed in two phases with the work on the first completed following which services on the Thane-Vashi-Panvel route would halt on the two platforms, informed Vichare. The second phase will be completed as part of the Kalwa-Airoli elevated route, MRVC officials said.
Vichare said he had been following up with the railway ministry since its inception for setting up the station as it would prove to be beneficial for commuters, especially those working in the industrial belt in the vicinity and even local residents who won’t have to travel to Airoli or Thane to board trains.
