To Celebrate It's 25th Birthday, We Recast "Titanic" And Honestly, We Think We Nailed It

You may be thinking, "sure, because of the hair colour", but it's so much more than that (though that is a bonus). Whatever Sadie's in, she steals the show. It's obvious she knows exactly how to play the right balance between brave and vulnerable – hello Stranger Things and The Whale. This is a leading lady right here!

Really there's no explanation needed, but we'll give you one anyway. The Internet's parasocial boyfriend is the ~perfect~ person to do Jack justice. Timmy's the king of heart-searing performances, and he's never let us down in a period piece before.

Okay, this is a little rogue, but Tom would really rock this role. He's played an evil snob before (Harry Potter, Belle) and we think he'd be a great fit for Cal. He's a lot older than Sadie, but I guess that would play into why we wouldn't ship their characters. Plus, don't you wanna see Tom with dark hair???

We considered a lot of people for this, but in the end, we think Christina meets a lot of the criteria. She's the right sort of age to play Sadie's mum, she looks visually similar to her, and she's a great actor. We'd love to see Christina back in a period piece (after Mad Men), and we think this is the perfect opportunity!

Gloria Stuart (Old Rose) was 87 when Titanic was released. Blythe is a little bit younger than that at 80, but hey, she's a fabulous actor, she can ~act~ older. Also, check out the resemblance between her and Sadie – they have the same bright blue eyes! We'd love to see Blythe step back into the limelight in this pivotal role.

Molly is one of the likeable few in Rose's inner circle, and who doesn't love Melissa?? She's wowed us with her comedy over the years, but she's just as much of a pro when it comes to serious roles (Can You Ever Forgive Me?). The perfect combination for a character that gives us the closest thing to comic relief in the cry-athon that is Titanic. 

Bill Paxton played this part super well in the original movie, but really this character could be played by anyone, so we're choosing Idris Elba. Idris has the authority and gravitas to play a filmmaker on an important expedition, but he's also capable of being sensitive to Rose's tragic story, we feel.

This Thomas Andrews part has to be both commanding and cuddly, if you know what we mean. We feel like Colin is more than capable of playing a man with a lot of prestige, but who's also kind and benevolent. Plus, he's great in period pieces – see A Single Man, Mary Poppins Returns, Pride and Prejudice.

Something about Pierce in this role just feels right to us, but Pierce as he appeared in Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, with the beard and the nautical fashion! In real life, Captain Smith was intending for the Titanic to be his final voyage before he retired, so Pierce is about the right age as well.
