The Golden State Warriors faces a Sunday night deadline on whether to nix a four-team trade involving Gary Payton II after he failed his physical due to an abdominal injury, ESPN and The Athletic reported on Saturday.

Payton’s injury could sideline him for the much of the remainder of the regular season, and Golden State now has until 9:30 p.m. ET on Sunday (8 am IST on Monday) to determine if it wants to proceed with the deal.

The Warriors contend information regarding Payton’s health was withheld during trade negotiations, per the reports. Golden State had not been informed that Payton was being given the pain killer Toradol.

The multi-team deal saw James Wiseman go to the Pistons, who traded Saddiq Bey to the Hawks and Kevin Knox to the Pistons. The Warriors sent five second-round picks to Portland, two of which came from Atlanta.

Payton, 30, averaged 4.1 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 15 games (one start) for the Blazers this season. He previously played for Golden State (2020-22) after stints with the Milwaukee Bucks (2016-18), Lakers (2017-18) and Wizards (2018-20).
