Chandigarh: The Punjab government has sought financial assistance and technical support from the Centre under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, while pointing out that the state was making efforts to utilise paddy straw as fuel. Punjab minister Aman Arora, who attended a meeting convened by Union minister for power and new and renewable energy R K Singh on Friday, said, “The state government is making a concerted effort to use paddy straw as a fuel. With the handholding of the Centre, Punjab can lead in production of hydrogen to make the state clean and green.”
To tackle the problem of paddy stubble burning and supplement the income of farmers, the state had mooted a plan last month to utilize around 1.8MT paddy straw in the under implementation 43 Compressed Biogas (CBG) projects per annum. Arora added that Asia’s largest CBG plant has already been commissioned in Sangrur and another CBG project of 12TPD capacity has been commissioned at Khanna and is on trial run.
