Juvenile held in Amritsar with 15 kg heroin, Rs 8.4 lakh drug money

AMRITSAR: A 17-year-old youth on his way to deliver a consignment was arrested with 15 kg heroin and Rs 8.4 lakh drug money in Amritsar. Director General of Police (DGP), Punjab, Gaurav Yadav tweeted on Thursday that police had seized 15 packets of heroin, Rs 8.4 lakh drug money and a motorcycle.
Following an intelligence input, the counter-intelligence (CI) wing of police had put up a naka on Ram Tirath Road. They caught the juvenile when he and his accomplice, identified as Resham Singh of Amritsar district, were going to deliver the drug consignment after retrieving it from Kakkar village.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the consignment was drone-dropped by Pakistan-based smugglers, he said.
About 10 days back, police had busted a trans-border drug smuggling cartel following the arrest of a drug smuggler and recovery of 5 kg heroin and Rs 12.5 lakh drug proceeds during a special checking operation at Thattha village of Lopoke in Amritsar.
Resham Singh was be- lieved to be the master- mind of the trans-border narcotics smuggling racket, but managed to flee from there. Acase under the NDPS Act was registered at the State Special Operation Cell police station. AIG , CI, Amritsar, Amarjit Singh Bajwa said the father and grandfather of the arrest- ed juvenile were already un- dergoing imprisonment under the NDPS Act He said investi- gations were on to find out who had sent the consignment from across the border and to whom it was going to be delivered.
