Tell middle class about New Tax regime, FM Nirmala Sitharaman to BJP MPs

BJP has chalked out an elaborate plan to reach out to the people with the salient points of the budget and educate them about the benefits that will accrue to them in coming months. The target is the middle class, women, youth and university students, those engaged in trade and commerce, and the farmers.

The middle class which has an income of less than Rs 15 lakh per year will benefit more from moving to the new tax regime. This and other important selling points of the budget were highlighted by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Chief Economic Advisor V Anantha Nageswaran in a briefing to BJP MPs from both Houses on Friday.

Nageswaran made a 90-minute powerpoint presentation to the BJP MPs at the Balayogi auditorium on Friday morning. This was followed by a question-answer session where Sitharaman highlighted the main issues.

"The MPs were informed about the tax system as this is a difficult issue for laymen...," an MP present at the meeting told ET.

Sitharaman also explained to the BJP MPs the '10 L Cr capital expenditure envisaged in the budget will give a boost to the infrastructure that will lead to jobs for labour and skilled manpower, sale of cement, steel, and so on.
