SALEM: Municipal administration minister K N Nehru and health minister Ma Subramanian on Tuesday issued loan waiver certificates to members of self-help groups (SHGs) in the city. A sum of 134 crore was waived off to 51,023 members of 5,241 SHGs.
Addressing the gathering,
Nehru said chief minister M K Stalin had waived off 2,756 crore of loan amount given to various self-help groups through the cooperative department.
“This amount was outstanding to various cooperative banks across the state till March 31, 2021,” he said. The minister said the CM had increased the loan amount to SHGs from 10 lakh to 20 lakh, which should be repaid within 36 months.
“In 2021-22, 819 self-help groups in the district received 30.7 crore. Similarly, in 2022-23, 1,780 groups received 52.37 crore as loan through the cooperative department,” he said.
Subramanian said, “22 PHCs are functioning in rental buildings in Salem district. They will be shifted to government buildings soon.”
