DUMKA: Two staff of a private nursing home in Jamtara were arrested and sent to judicial custody on Monday for allegedly raping a 40-year-old woman who was attending to her husband after his surgery at the health facility. Jamtara SP confirmed the arrests, but said that prima facie probe doesn’t indicate ‘rape’ and said that further probe was underway. Those arrested were identified as Shanti Prasad Mahto and Vinay Kumar.
The incident took place on Sunday late night at a private nursing home under Town police station area. The complainant in her FIR said, “On Sunday night, these two began teasing her after finding her husband asleep. Later, they raped her in turns. They also threatened her of dire consequences if she revealed it to anyone.” On Monday, she informed her relatives about the incident who later thronged the nursing home with other villagers and resorted to vandalism.
Jamtara SP Manoj Swargiary on Tuesday said, “Although the accused have been forwarded to jail on the basis of the FIR, preliminary investigation did not suggest that the complainant was actually raped or gang-raped. The medical examination report is awaited though.”
