Panaji: The refusal of a senior Congress national functionary to comment on the Mhadei issue left the state functionaries red-faced on Wednesday and left them to do the explanation on the issue.
Head of the party's research department, Rajeev Gowda, refused to take any questions on Mhadei, while in Goa to launch the Haath se Haath Jodo Abhiyan, on Wednesday. The campaign will be launched from Azad Maidan, at 4pm, on Thursday.
“I’m focussing on the themes of the yatra,” said Gowda, while declining to reply to any Mhadei-linked queries.
“We want to impart the message of compassion and inclusion and everything that the Constitution stands for. A positive message will be conveyed to inspire all to overcome the division that BJP and RSS is trying to ferment across the country,” said Gowda, when reporters pointed out that Congress’ national functionaries such as Randeep Singh Surjewale and the party’s Karnataka in-charge had sided with the neighbouring state on the Mhadei issue.
Goa Congress president Amit Patkar, however, said that Congress had made its stand clear more than once. Mhadei issue, he said, will be part of the chargesheet that will be issued against PM Narendra Modi.
