The National Weather Service Lake Charles has detected three tornadoes that went through Southeast Texas on Tuesday.

One of the tornadoes started in Liberty County and moved into Jefferson County between Nome and China, National Weather Service Hydrologist Jonathan Brazzell.

The second tornado started in Big Hill and moved northeast through Taylor Landing and heading just north between Taylor Bayou and Hillebrandt Bayou.

The final tornado started just north of Bessie Heights and then crossed Orangefield into the Weiss Bluff before moving over the Sabine River into Starks and Vinton, Louisiana.

"Right now, our best guesses in Southeast Texas is we had three (tornadoes)," Brazzell said. "That's not to say there couldn't have been more."

Brazzell said the three tornadoes were identified using the storm radar and debris patterns. However, storm damage teams may be able to detect more when out in the field looking at damage.

Although none of the tornados went through Hardin County, they had the highest rainfall total 4.01 inches, according to the National Weather Service.

The Drainage District 6 website shows that the highest rainfall total for Jefferson County was just south the Beaumont Municipal Airport. The area received 2.61 inches of rain during the 24-hour period that started 7:40 a.m. Tuesday.

Brazzell said the National Weather Service reported generally 1 to 2 inches in Orange County.

Jack Brooks Regional Airport had the highest reported wind speed in the area with 55 mph, Brazzell said. Other notable top wind speed in the region were 51 mph in Port Arthur and 49 mph at Texas Point.

Brazzell said he's aware of unofficial reports of 60 mph winds in Mid-County, but those came from personal weather stations.

Orange County only has reported speeds from the Orange County airport, which were below 40 mph, Brazzell said.

"I'm sure with the tornadoes and thunderstorms there were higher speeds speeds of course," Brazzell said.
