Infra overloaded, needs upgrade: RWAs to Haryana power minister, discom
Unscheduled outages due to infrastructure being overloaded are common, residents said
GURUGRAM: Representatives of various RWAs met state power minister Ranjit Singh Chautala and DHBVN chief engineer Naveen Verma on Tuesday seeking their intervention for the upgrade of overloaded transformers across the city.
Several commercial establishments are operating in residential colonies and sectors, which is leading to power fluctuation and breakdowns of transmission lines, residents pointed out.
Apart from this, RWAs also raised allegations of negligence and poor workmanship by the agency contracted for the smart grid project. “There is an urgent need to enhance the power infrastructure as some of the colonies are nearly three decades old and the electricity equipment needs a major overhaul,” Praveen Yadav, the convenor of United Gurugram RWAs, said.
Unscheduled outages are frequently witnessed due to infrastructure being overloaded, residents said. “We have been facing a lot of disruptions in power supply, especially during the summer, mainly because of overloading. We have urged DHBVN to carry out a survey and set up new transformers in the sector to ensure uninterrupted supply,” Puneet Pahwa, the general secretary of Sector 45 said.
Neeru Yadav, the president of Sector 23A (east zone) RWA, said: “The work carried out by the contractor is shabby. They are damaging sewer chambers, interlocking tiles and roads, but aren’t fixing these on time or properly.”
When contacted, DHBVN chief engineer Naveen Verma said they are working towards resolving the issues raised by residents.
