Court jails 7 accused in poppy case

Senapati, January 24 2023: Of the nine accused, who were arrested by Senapati District Police on the charge of cultivating poppies in Chalaha (Khabung) village on January 17 last; court of District & Sessions Judge, Senapati on Tuesday sent seven of them to jail.
In connection with the FIR No.30(12), 2023, SPT-PS under Section 18(b) ND & PS Act regarding poppy cultivation on the Eastern Hill Range of Chalaha (Khabung) village, the 9 accused were produced before the court of CJM Senapati on January 17 and remanded them to police custody till January 24 .
On Tuesday, the 9 accused were produced before the Sessions Judge-NDPS Senapati, wherein 7 of them were remanded in judicial custody.
Two of the accused, namely, Kumar (39) s/o Arka Bahadur of New Magiimai, Maram and Som Bahadur (22) s/o Pakha Bahadur of Angkailongdi village were found to be charcoal burners and as such, were later released on bail vide order No.DSJ/SPT/2023/13, dated January 24, 2023 .
The other accused sent to jail included S Johnson (60) s/o Shele of Khabung village, Meelan Gole Tamang (29) s/o Lai Bir Gole Tamang of Irang Part- 2, Dashing Paksring Tamang (38) s/o Sedimang Tamang of Irang Part-2, Man Bahadur Tamang (53) s/o Pasuram Tamang of Irang Part-2, Krishna Kumar (33) s/o Pamka Bahadur of Khabung village, Pasang Tamang (50) s/o Tej Bahadur of Kanglatongbi and Ajit Gole (29) s/o Som Bahadur of Irang Part-1 .
