Death-row convict in photojournalist Aftab Ahmed murder arrested


The Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) of police has arrested a death-row convict in Ekushey Padak winning photojournalist Aftab Ahmed murder case.

Raju Munshi, who was awarded death penalty in late photojournalist murder case, was arrested from Hili border area in Dinajpur district on Wednesday (January 25) evening.

ATU police super Aslam Khan confimed it.

He said police recovered the body of Aftab Ahmed from his residence at Rampura in the capital on December 25, 2013. Later, a murder case was filed. The court sentenced five accused to death and one seven years' jail on March 28, 2017 in the case.

The five accused awarded death penalties are Billal Hossain Kislu, Habib Howlader, Raju Munshi, Rasel and driver Humayun Kabir Molla. Besides, another accused Sabuj Khan was awarded seven years' jail sentence and fined Tk 10,000.

Aftab Ahmed was a photojournalist of the Daily Ittefaq. He took many photos of Bangladesh's liberation war and post-independence. He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2006 for his outstanding contributions to the field of photo journalism.
